DIY Projects from CTMH
Home sweet home, where we get to decorate to our heart’s delight! Add these beautiful DIY dècor pieces to your home to live inspired every day. We’ve chosen a sleek color scheme of Grey Flannel, Black, and White Daisy, with a pop of Pear, and we used the graphic flowers from the My Acrylix® Dreamin’ Workshop set to add subtle texture to the White Daisy paper in the desk calendar and art canvas.
Desk Calendar
~ Create the triangular base of this calendar by folding a 12" × 12" piece of chipboard at the 3" and 7 1/2" marks.
~ Insert three pins from the Bling assortment (Z1466) and clip the sharp ends if they protrude too much. (Tip: You can use hot glue on the back to anchor the pins.)
~ Cut twelve 3 1/2" scalloped squares from Pear cardstock using the shape on the Cricut® Art Philosophy cartridge (Z1686) and sponge the edges with Pear ink.
~ Cut twelve 3 1/2" squares from Grey Flannel cardstock and sponge edges with Grey Flannel ink.
~ Use the 3" chipboard squares from the My Creations® memory game (Z1614) for the date tiles. Stamp the background flower pattern in second generation using Grey Flannel ink and then stamp the month or numbers with black StazOn® ink. Sponge the edges with Grey Flannel ink. (Tip: Stamp two of numbers 1 and 2. Stamp one each of numbers 3 – 9 and 0.)
~ Back each month and date tile with the 24 pieces of cardstock and then punch a hole in the top for easy hanging.
Art Canvas
~ Cut a piece of cardstock to the size of your canvas. (Tip: Do all your stamping and inking first before attaching the cardstock to the canvas.)
~ Select four or five alphabet stamp sets, varying the size and styles. (Tip: You can create this “subway art” look with whatever alphabet sets you have on hand.)
~ Choose a few simple icon stamps to fill in empty areas.
~ Play around with the placement and spacing of the letters and icons before stamping.
~ Stamp the words and icons with black StazOn® ink.
~ Attach the finished cardstock piece using a thin coat of Mod Podge applied to the canvas.
Vase
~ Cut out 130 2" scalloped circles from Grey Flannel cardstock using the shape on the Cricut® Art Philosophy cartridge (Z1686) or by punching the circles using the 2" scallop circle punch (Z1392).
~ Staple the circles together in stacks of five.
~ Squeeze and scrunch the edges then adhere two stapled sets together on the flat sides to create a spherical shape.
~ Sponge edges with Grey Flannel ink if desired.
~ Place the finished flowers inside a glass carafe or vase.
~ Wrap Sweet Leaf ribbon from the Designer Ribbon green collection (Z1616) around the neck of the vase to accent.

Felted Wool Wrist Warmers
These are just too cute and so easy to make. Found them on one of my favorite sites, The Purl Bee, and had to share. Molly's Felted Wool Wrist Warmers are "beyond quick to sew, making them an even more last-minute holiday gift than the more traditional knitted and crocheted versions (score one for the sewists!). In fact, if you skipped the embroidery you could make a pair in under 20 minutes. Even with the embroidery you’ll clock in under an hour! These Wrist Warmers are beautiful worn on their own, or wear them over gloves for an extra layer of warmth and style."
If I can get the right materials in time, I'd love to make a pair for each of my girls for Christmas. How cute would these be as a stocking stuffer!

Seasons of Change
Life ... it can force you to change direction on the drop of a dime.
I self-imposed a break from posting to help focus my attention elsewhere for a while. Seasons change and I now need to better balance all the areas of my life. I tend to hyper-focus on an immediate need, and going forward, will strive for a harmonious balance.
That said ... I'm back. I've got a bunch of stuff to post about and can't wait to get going.

Impulse Buying
Impulse Buying With No Budget Equals Financial Disaster by Rick Warren
"Plan carefully and you will have plenty; if you act too quickly, you will never have enough." (Proverbs 21:5 TEV)
A budget is simply a plan. It's telling your money where you want it to go, rather than wondering where it went. And the problem many of us have today is that we don't know where our money is going because we don't have a budget.
But if you want to get out of debt, you have to nip it in the budget. Do you remember Barney Fife, from The Andy Griffith Show? He used to say, “Nip it, nip it, nip it in the bud.” We need to nip it in the budget.
Notice today’s verse says, “Plan carefully.” That means budgeting; a budget is simply planned spending. Planning carefully means you say, “This is what we're going to spend next year and next month,” and by doing that, the Bible says, “You will have plenty.” It's a promise of God.
On the other hand, as today's verse says, “If you act too quickly, you will never have enough.” This refers to what advertisers, marketers and retailers call impulse buying. You know what impulse buying is? Have you ever gone into a store without planning to buy something, but you bought it on an impulse? You didn't think about the purchase; it was totally emotion-based. You saw it, you wanted it, and you bought it.
And if you act too quickly, impulse buying plus no budget equals financial disaster. Have you ever bought something without thinking and later regretted it? Most of us have! And that's why you've got to have a plan.
When you make purchases this week, ask yourself if what you are buying is something you really need. Ask, “Is this an impulse buy?”

Debt Free
You Can Be Debt Free by Rick Warren
"Don't run up debts, except for the huge debt of love you owe each other." (Romans 13:8a MSG)
My hope for you is that you will be debt free by the end of this decade. It is possible if you are disciplined. Let me say that if you've never been debt free, you have no idea the freedom you will experience when you no longer owe anybody anything.
And this is why it is important: if God told you to go do something right now, some of you couldn't do it because you are in such financial bondage.
The Bible says we should not withhold the repayment of our debts, that we should let no debt remain outstanding. What does that mean? If you are only paying the minimum on your credit card, you are letting a debt remain outstanding. The Bible says don't do that. God is not going to bless that.
You need to set up repayment. You may be thinking that would be hard. It is hard! That's why most people are in debt. If it were easy, everybody would be rich. The fact is, most people do not have the character and discipline to do what God tells them to do. First, give 10% to God; second, put 10% into savings; then, set up a repayment plan.
You might say, “Wait a minute. Are you telling me to save before I pay off my debts?” That's exactly what I'm telling you to do, because if you wait until you get all your debts paid off to start saving or tithing, you will never do it.
You may think you can’t afford it, but the truth is, you can't afford not to do it God’s way.
How will you need to adjust your finances so they line up with God’s way? Even if it seems impossible, set up a repayment plan for your debts.

Invest in the Future
Invest in the Future by Saving by Rick Warren
"Wise people live in wealth and luxury, but stupid people spend their money as fast as they get it." (Proverbs 21:20 TEV)
The Bible says a lot about making financial investments. In fact, you can see that Proverbs 21:20 is God's IQ test! Let's see how smart you are: wise people save for the future, but foolish people spend whatever they get.
There is a question you can ask yourself that will help you save more money. It's really simple. When you get ready to buy something, ask yourself, “Do I really need this?” And then be honest enough to tell yourself.
For instance, do I really need a new car? Well, I know I'd like it. But do I really need a new car? Do I really need this upgrade? I know I'd like it, but do I really need it?
A fundamental financial principle is this: when you spend your money, it's gone. Yet when you save your money, it works for you. The problem with most of us is that we work for our money instead of letting our money work for us. If you'll do it God's way, you can get out of debt, and you can be blessed.
How will you need to adjust your finances so they line up with God’s way?

COURAGEOUS Movie Trailer
Honor Begins at Home
"Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, David Thomson, and Shane Fuller are confident and focused. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood.
While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. But they're quickly discovering that their standard is missing the mark.
When tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a new found urgency help these dads draw closer to God ... and to their children?
Filled with action-packed police drama, COURAGEOUS is the fourth film from Sherwood Pictures, the movie making ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia. Riveted moviegoers will once again find themselves laughing, crying, and cheering as they are challenged and inspired by everyday heroes who long to be the kinds of dads that make a lifelong impact on their children.
Protecting the streets is second nature to these men. Raising their children in a God-honoring way? That's courageous.

Pineapple Upside-Down Cake
Not sure exactly what jogged my memory and desire for this Tupperware recipe, but I decided to try it out again on our last camping trip. I made this years ago when I was friendly with a local Tupperware distributor and thought my girls would be thrilled to know you can make a cake in the microwave. I still use my Tupperware Microsteamer (shown below) for other purposes, so I packed it along for our trip to the Poconos.
If you happen to own a Tupperware Microsteamer, or are so intrigued by the recipe that you decide to purchase one, I've shared the recipe below. As written, the recipe worked great on our camping trip. Our hybrid travel trailer has a typical microwave. I just made the cake at home and for future reference, I need to decrease the cooking time by a minute or so for my more-powerful home microwave.
Microsteamer Pineapple Upside-Down Cake (for microwave cooking)
1 box - yellow cake mix
all ingredients required for cake mix
½ stick butter
½ cup - brown sugar
1 can pineapple rings
1 jar - maraschino cherries
1. Melt butter in bottom section of Microsteamer in microwave (about 30 seconds).
2. Crumble brown sugar over the melted butter.
3. Drain pineapples, reserving juice for the cake mixture. Spread pineapple rings, in a single layer, over the brown sugar and butter. Add a maraschino cherry to the center of each pineapple ring.
4. Prepare cake mix according to directions. Add water to the reserved pineapple juice to make the required amount of water for the cake mix.
5. Pour cake mixture into the Microsteamer over the pineapples, cherries, brown sugar and butter mixture.
6. Cover the Microsteamer and cook on high power in the microwave for 12 minutes. If your microwave does not have a turntable, be sure to turn the Microsteamer a ½ turn after 6 minutes. After cooking, let the cake stand, covered, in the microwave for an additional 5 minutes before removing. Turn cake onto to a plate or cake tray and enjoy.
My family loves the cake slightly warm with a dollop of Cool Whip on top. ENJOY!

52 Weeks of Wonder
Return of the Mask!
"In an earlier Weeks of Wonder post, I showed you some of the fun layering possibilities that you can achieve with the masking technique. See it here. This week I’ll revisit masking as a way to bring added pattern and dimension to your stamping.
Look at the pattern that has been stamped on the schoolhouse of this card. You’ll notice that the cross-hatch pattern doesn’t go onto the “School” sign, or the door, or even outside the schoolhouse walls. You can stamp patterns on selected portions of any image by using a mask! Here’s how:
Start by stamping your selected image on a piece of cardstock or B&T paper, as well as on a post-it note. Post-it notes make great masks because the adhesive keeps your mask in place without leaving residue on your project. Use your micro-tip scissors to trim around the inside of your stamped image – not the outside as you would with an ordinary mask. Trim out whatever parts you’d like to fill in with a pattern, but leave the outside of the image and any interior features (like the door or the "School” sign) attached to the mask.
Line your mask up with your original image, and then stamp your texture directly over the mask. The cross-hatch pattern on this schoolhouse card comes from the Tasty Treats stamp set (D1427). Keep the mask in place and sponge in added color for a solid look.
You can see that once you’ve made a mask for an image, you can use it over and over again. Store the mask you’ve created in the same envelope with your stamps and use it on as many projects as you like.
There are hundreds of stamp images you can add patterns to by using this technique – the fun part is getting creative with your image and pattern pairings to bring an extra dash of “you” to your artwork!"
Jeanette Lynton
I love the effect using masks gives my projects. Although the micro scissors work is time-consuming, the end result is worth the extra effort.

Let God Define You
Let God Define You by Rick Warren
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” (John 8:12 NLT)
Jesus faced constant demands, dangerous opposition and little privacy. Yet he never allowed others to define him.
What does that teach us?
Know who you are (John 8:12) — There was no doubt in Jesus’ mind as to who he was. He knew he came from God, and he knew he had a unique mission to fulfill. As believers, we can know we belong to God and that God defines who we are and what we are meant to do on this Earth. Trying to be someone God never intended you to be causes stress!
Know whom you want to please (John 5:30) — Jesus never let the fear of rejection manipulate him. No one can pressure you without your permission. You can’t please everyone; even God can’t!
Know what goals you need to reach (John 8:14) — Jesus said, “I know where I came from and where I am going.” Preparation prevents pressure, but procrastination produces it. You work by either priorities or pressures.
Know how to maintain your priorities (Luke 4:42–44) — Jesus knew how to handle interruptions without being distracted from his primary goal.

52 Weeks of Wonder
"The first day of school is right around the corner. This time of year always brings lots of excitement and I’m eager to share some fun techniques using alphabets in your artwork. You learned all about using your alphabet for writing in school, but we’re going to look at some ideas that give you a new way of thinking about these 26 little letters.
For a subtle use of the alphabet, adorn your school-themed layouts with your own alphabet-patterned paper. On this layout, the alphabet pattern is made using the Classmate Alphabet (D1303). Start by lining up your alphabet stamps in a single row from A to Z. You’ll need more than one block to fit them all. You can use both sides of the same block; just make sure you don’t overlap the images so you can still see clearly.
Jeanette suggests to try stamping and embossing on Dimensional Elements to create your own Irresistibles. How cool is that!

DEAL of the CENTURY for Paper Crafters!
No one likes a deal better than me. And this is a huge deal! CTMH has two promotions that are overlapping for two weeks where you can double dip and take advantage of both of them from August 15-31!
The first promotion is to celebrate CTMH's new Stamp Of The Month program. When you spend $50, you can get the SOTM for only $5. When you purchase the SOTM in August, you will also get the adorable mini alphabet stamp set called "A Typeset" for FREE. DEAL #1.

And in case you didn't catch my August SOTM post, here's another picture of the stamp set and some gorgeous artwork created using "Wicked".
Next, to celebrate National Stamping Month in September, you will get this adorable DOUBLE stamp set called "Pair-A-Phrase" for FREE, when you spend $75! You’ll love this double set—two D-size sets come in one envelope—which includes lots of clever phrases and coordinating images you’ll use in your paper crafts all year. And with a retail value of $35.90, this set drastically increases the value of your qualifying purchase. CTMH is starting this promotion today, August 15th and it will run through September 30th. DEAL #2.
Since the promotions overlap from August 15-31, if you spend $70, and purchase the August SOTM for $5, you will automatically qualify to get both the "A Typeset" stamp and the "Pair-A-Phrase" double stamp set for FREE! Now that can be considered the Deal of the Century!
For those crafters who own a Cricut machine, this is the perfect time to order the new Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge bundle (cartridge with over 700 images, 3 exclusive, coordinating stamp sets and 3 sheets of coordinating Dimensional Elements chipboard shapes). Order the cartridge and the August SOTM for $5.00, and you will qualify for all of these great promotions!
Since I don't own a Cricut machine, here's how the Deal of the Century worked for me, stacking both promotions to give me the biggest bang for my bucks:
1. Purchase $50 in product (before shipping & tax) and get the August SOTM for only $5 ($17.95 value). This immediately qualified me for the "A Typeface" stamp set FREE ($6.95 value). Here's what I purchased:
